Biryani Goes Bollywood: 6 Indian Movie Characters Who Can’t Live Without Biryani

Okay, okay, we all know you love biryani. Dum biryani, Andhra biryani, Bengali biryani with the flavourful potatoes, chicken biryani, mutton biryani… The list is probably as long as post-demonetization ATM queues.

We’re sure you’d like to wax eloquent about your relationship with this one-pot wonder. For our part, we’re looking at Indian movies today. Here’s a list of six Indian movie characters who can probably throw your love for biryani some serious shade.

1. Crime Master Gogo from Andaz Apna Apna

He is Mogambo’s nephew, so don’t mess with him.

There are many things that Gogo is not good at: figuring out who Teja is, not tripping over his ghagra, and finding diamonds come to mind. Eating biryani is not one of those things, though. Rumour has it, he serves up biryani in memory of his late departed uncle before committing any dastardly crime.

2. Anjali Sharma from Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham

Anyone who makes food, loves food.

And if that anyone lives in Chandni Chowk, then they probably love all things Mughlai. Anjali is all of this, besides being a firecracker. Only the complex taste of a biriyani can truly match her personality. After she is forced to move to videsh, her love for desi biryani is further cemented. The national anthem and biryani FTW!

3. Geet from Jab We Met

This one is a no-brainer. Geet is a live-big -or-go-home type of gal.

Running after trains, taking risks, living life without fear is just another day in the Life of Geet. When she wants to take a break from talking at 200 kilometres an hour, she keeps her mouth busy by gorging on mountains of biryani. How she manages to stay healthy enough to run after trains is anybody’s guess.

She is even seen making a giant pot full of the dish at her own wedding. Didn’t we tell you already that she’s something of a badass?

4. Sugan from Biriyani

This character might not be as popular up north, but wins major points for commitment: they named the movie biryani, for crying out loud!

Sugan (Karthi) loves his biryani like no other. Maybe even more than his best friend. We like this movie because it shows the proper respect a plate of biryani deserves. The dish actually serves as a major plot point of the film, and marks the beginning of the movie.

5. Vidya Bagchi from Kahaani

Have you guys ever tasted Bengali biryani? It has potatoes in it. ‘Nuff said.

No, actually we have more. The potato cooks with the biryani masala. After it is deep fried. So essentially, it’s a deep fried potato with biryani flavour. No wonder Vidya Bagchi came back from wherever to eat this sinful biryani extravagance.

The revenge thing was a cover up. We have inside sources telling us that the fake baby bump was a storage bag for more biryani. You know, for biryani on the go.

So yeah. Those were the biggest biryani fiends ever to have graced the silver screen. If you think your love is purer, prove it. Pull out your Swiggy app and order yourself some of that succulent, spicy, goodness.
