A rainy afternoon in Bengaluru. Not typical to a city that has grown accustomed to rain falling only after 4 in the afternoon. A neatly packaged set of cupcakes, donuts and merchandise make their way to the Bellandur-Marathalli ring road through a constant shower – the sort that needs less than a minute to leave you drenched and miserable.
As it usually happens, for reasons that are beyond the understanding of most Bangaloreans, the traffic draws to a standstill. There are stranded motorcyclists under every structure that breaks the thrum of the rain and cars are weaving to avoid mud-filled craters with their windshield wipers working hard and fast.
Fortunately for us, the rains didn’t do all the damage it was capable of and we reached just in time.
The Winner: Smriti Advani
However, a thing as little as rain isn’t enough to dampen the occasion. We had a winner; a team of people who deserved to be surprised at work with a basket of dessert. Fittingly, it was a race against time to hand over their spoils since they were set to spend the rest of their day confined to conference rooms – in meetings.
What does it taken to lighten up a hectic work day at inarguably the king of Bengaluru startups? Donuts are a good place to start.
Mate the donuts to cupcakes and merchandise. This is the result. Excitement at the workstation – and not just for the winners.
The gloomy weather and stubborn traffic made it the perfect day to surprise a team of hard workers with oodles of dessert. After all, as much as we may disagree on what we should and shouldn’t eat, everyone clearly agrees that dessert is good.
