From Sales Intern to Associate Account Manager: Hasmat Ali’s Journey of Growth at Swiggy

How embracing challenges, consistent effort, and a learning mindset helped Hasmat Ali transform his career and earn the ‘Made A Difference’ award at Swiggy.

Most people choose roles that match their strengths. Hasmat Ali chose one that challenged his weakness, and that decision transformed his career. When he joined Swiggy as a Sales Intern in May 2024, Hasmat wasn’t sure if he could thrive in a role built on constant interaction. But that very challenge pushed him out of his comfort zone, turning hesitation into confidence, and conversations into collaborations.

With consistency, hard work, and the courage to keep learning, Hasmat went from being an intern to becoming a full-time Associate Account Manager in just three months. Along the way, he even earned the ‘Made A Difference’ award, proving that effort backed by initiative always leaves an impact. He drove sales at Swiggy as an intern and now turning conversations into collaborations as an employee.

Hasmat says, “I was excited to join Swiggy as a Sales Intern in May 2024, but I had one big doubt: Can a shy person like me really thrive in sales? I had to find the answer and overcome this doubt. I knew I had to challenge myself.”

At the start of his internship, he was shadowing his seniors, learning the ropes on how to speak with restaurant partners, how to convince them, and understand the shortcomings and opportunities. Soon, he was on the field, meeting 7-8 stakeholders in a day. Initially, it was uncomfortable, but he did not let that sway him, and kept putting himself in the thick of it.

Before Hasmat knew it, his manager started recognising his work and he was offered a full-time job as an Associate Account Manager in just three months. Once he joined full-time, he became more data-centric. He would use the data available to suggest areas to tap for visibility or growth opportunities for restaurants.

Hasmat shares, “The highlight of my first year was converting Nagpur’s top outlets to Dineout. In December 2024, I led The Skyroof x Swiggy Dineout campaign, where ads of The Skyroof restaurant went live during the Pushpa 2’s screening, targeting Cinemax and Cinepolis along with radio promotions on My FM and Radio Mirchi; we successfully created a strong local buzz at no upfront expenses for Dineout. Additionally, I successfully ran Freebie Fest campaigns, offering customers freebies that were co-funded by both us and our restaurant partners.”

He shares, “Sales is a dynamic field and a lot is at stake, so make mistakes, but own up to them and come up even stronger. If you have that mindset, no one can stop you from growing here.

For anyone starting as an intern at Swiggy, the key is to work diligently, even when no one is watching, and remain consistent in your efforts. Embrace every opportunity to learn, step beyond your comfort zone, and take ownership of your responsibilities.”
