World Protein Day 2026: Protein Is Having a Moment Here💪

February 27, 2026

Protein, the new everyday Lifestyle

Let’s be honest, protein has had a serious image makeover.

What once lived in gym shakers and diet charts is now showing up in burgers, biryanis, pizzas, coffees, and even chai, with Gen Z leading the way, this shift is clearly resonating.

World Protein Day isn’t just about macros anymore. It’s about how protein has quietly become part of everyday eating, without asking people to give up taste, comfort, or convenience

At Swiggy, this shift sparked a simple but powerful question

What if eating more protein didn’t feel like a compromise at all?

.

How India Thinks About Protein Today

Over the last year, protein has gone mainstream:

  • It’s no longer only about muscle, it’s about staying full, having energy, and feeling good.
  • People want protein inside food they already love, not as add-ons or supplements.
  • Nutrition awareness is rising, but clarity is still missing.

Swiggy’s research revealed a critical gap: nearly 60% of urban Indians don’t consume protein-rich foods daily, and many aren’t sure how much protein they actually need.

That insight sparked a shift creating a bridge for the awareness gap without complicating the ordering experience, Swiggy introduced visible protein and calorie (kcal) information on dishes making protein content easy to spot, compare, and choose.

This protein-first approach expanded into EatRight, an umbrella category that also includes Low Calorie and No Added Sugar options while High Protein continues to be its strongest and most widely adopted pillar.

Today, 1 in every 12 orders on Swiggy is a High Protein order, proving that when protein information is simple, visible, and embedded into familiar food, people actively choose it.

Gen Z & Protein: No Rules, Just Results

Gen Z is driving the biggest change in how protein is consumed:

  • Lifestyle > diet: Protein is fuel for workdays, workouts, and everything in between.
  • Formats matter: Bowls, wraps, burgers, salads, and drinks win over rigid meal plans.
  • Transparency builds trust: Clear protein and calorie info helps them choose fast.
  • Habits beat motivation: Streaks, nudges, and small wins keep them coming back.

For Gen Z, protein isn’t a phase, it’s part of daily food decisions.

The High Protein Wave At Swiggy:

Protein on Swiggy isn’t just about chicken and eggs

Vegetarian protein is pulling its weight: paneer, dals, legumes, soy, and multigrains are powering a growing share of High Protein orders. From paneer bowls to dal chillas, veg protein is proving it can be both satisfying and mainstream.

The result? High Protein that works for both veg and non-veg eaters without asking anyone to change their food identity.

Cracking the Toughest Cuisines (Yes, Even Biryani 🍛)

Some cuisines are notoriously hard to balance nutritionally esp. North Indian, biryani, pizza, burgers.

In the High protein journey, 10 leading restaurant brands partnered with Swiggy to change that, adding new protein-forward items across several outlets.

What Changed?

Biryani:

  • Meghana reworked its biryani into a box format with more protein and less rice.

Eg-Box Chicken Boneless Biryani – 27g protein, 599kcal (Meghana Foods)

Pizza:

  • Olio launched multigrain-base pizzas with the same indulgence, better balance.

Eg- Chicken Kingdom Pizza (Multigrain) – 29g protein, 591 kcal (Olio- The Wood Fired Pizzeria)

North Indian:

  • EatFit and HRX EatFit introduced protein bowls and multigrain rotis fixing the calorie protein imbalance in everyday meals.

Eg – Italian Chunky Chicken Bowl Plus –20g protein, 700 kcal (Eatfit)

Beverages:

  • Starbucks added protein-enriched foam.

Eg-Tall Iced Vanilla Latte with Vanilla Protein Foam-17g protein, 244kcal (Starbucks)

  • For ABCoffee, adding whey protein to its coffee became a clear differentiator.

Eg-Vanilla Protein Frappe-25g protein, 301kcal (ABCoffee)

Protein works best when it blends into habits, not when it fights them.
